Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking : Book Review

             Jim Pagiamtzis review:

“ Spectacular book that I learned more about Dale Carnegie, Anthony Robbins and public speaking! Susan Cain to me on a journey that was interesting, invigorating and funny. She shared strategies, stories and insights on the introverts and how extroverts have made in since the dawn of time. Must read book!”

The book that started the Quiet Revolution
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.read more

Special movie and Book review: Jurassic Park The Lost World book and movie (and my experience!)

This all started in Summer of 1996 when I read the book Jurassic Park: The Lost World and then one year last the movie was released. I got my movie ticket and was 1st in line. Telling everyone I had read the book and was excited to see the book on the silver screen.

I got out of the film and was extremely disappointed in what I had seen on the silver screen. They had made multiple changes to the book to film.  A fellow movie goer tried to ease my pain she said "welcome to Hollywoood!"

                The book review:
" A page turner that will have you want to be part of the excitement. Dinosaurs are running loose!"

              Jim Pagiamtzis review:
"Jurassic Park returns and the twists and turns and multiple plot lines come crashing together in epic thrill ride!  All Star cast brings the dinosaurs to land and dire consequences!"

Movie plot;
John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) summons chaos theorist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to his home with some startling information -- while nearly everything at his Jurassic Park had been destroyed, his engineers happened to have a second site, where other dinosaurs were kept in hiding. It seems the dinosaurs on the second island are alive and well and even breeding; and Hammond wants Malcolm to observe and document the reptiles before Hammond's financiers can get to them.

Five Ways to responsibily collect and manage customer's informaiton: Special Guest Post

Five ways to responsibly collect and manage your customer’s information.

A 2018 study by the Canadian Marketing Association found that 40 percent of Canadians are willing to share their personal data in exchange for benefits such as free products, improved service, and tailored offers. However 77 per cent of Canadians have some concern about their online privacy, specifically the sharing of personal data. So this could be interpreted to mean that if you can make people confident in how you collect and manage their personal data, they would be more likely to want to share it. So here are five way to responsibly collect and manage your customer’s information.

Compliance. Beyond local and federal laws, many industries have their own codes of conduct regarding customer data. These can cover everything from how data is collected to what incentives can be offered in return for sharing such data. This should be your starting point when creating a data collection program.

Gather only what you need. The more information you ask from customers, the less likely they are to give it to you. Also, more information means more resources needed to manage it. So focus on exactly what data you need, why you need it, and how it will be used.

Storage. While it can be argued that no data is truly safe, you can still reduce the chances of it being hacked. Start with an established, offsite data management company. Not only will it be automatically backed up and physically safe from theft, but many security features come standard. It will also reduce your liability should things get compromised.

Internal policies and guidelines. The weakest link in any security system is the human one. Beyond making sure you control who has access to the data, it is also important to establish clear policies and guidelines. This will ensure the data is used in accordance with local laws while encompassing corporate and social responsibility. Sharing these policies with the public is an important part of building trust.

Transparency. People don’t mind sharing personal data if they feel doing so will benefit them. So let them know what the deal is. What will it be used for? Will it be shared? What will the customer get out of it? Can they have the data removed if they wish? These are all questions who’s answers should be honest and accessible.
