My Journey to Newmarket

Guest blog post by Patrick Bizindayvi our trip to Newmarket,ONT on Dec 16,2011

As my friend Jim is driving me to my speaking engagement in Newmarket, he just says: I think your next blog should be “My Journey to Newmarket”. And here it is Jim. I kept my promise.

I like to be around Jim, who has now become my speaking buddy. Whenever he is asked to speak he often invites me to go with him, and I have learned to do the same. Boy are we having fun together.

So, on our way to Newmarket, he asks me: “What are you going to speak about?” , to which I responded “I don't know!”. He laughed so hard at my response, but it was the honest truth. I have been speaking a lot the last few weeks that sometimes I find myself in front of the same people who are attending the same events I am attending, so I don't want to repeat the same speech they have heard many times. Good thing that I have so many stories to tell, all I have to do is remember one of them.

And it happened. By the time we got to Newmarket, I saw a number of familiar faces that had seen me speak before, so I had to find something else to speak about. Here is a small segment of my speech in Newmarket. Hope you will enjoy it: Click here to view it

Did you have fun with it? I hope you did

I heard once Bob Proctor say (and I am paraphrasing here) that if you miss your goal, don't change your goal, change your action plan. It is such a powerful statement. Guess what! I missed my goal for the month of November. So, I had to change my action plan. Do you know what I came up with? You won't believe it. I said to myself: what if there could be a way of achieving more by doing...less (it sounds crazy, doesn't it?). But I had to try it

So, for several weeks now, all I do when I get up in the morning, I write down my to do list and then I do...nothing. I pick up one of the books that Jim gave me and read it, or if I am inspired to watch a video, I do so. I most of the times even forget about my to do list (except of course calling my wife lol).

Do you know what happens at the end of the day? I go back to my list to find out that I have done everything that is in there without knowing that I did it. I sounds silly but that has been my experience. I do things that I feel I am inspired to do, and I am having fun along the way. And I have achieved so many things in this month it is not even funny.

One of the great things that are happening is the people that I am meeting now. It is crazy. Just yesterday, I had a meeting with Jennifer Beale. If you haven't heard of Jennifer Beale, maybe you do not live in Toronto. She is a powerhouse lady. I have heard of her so many times that I was so excited to finally meet her (thanks to my friend Paul). From our discussions I could tell that we are all motivated by similar reasons and that is to achieve our dreams and goals in a manner that benefits everyone, the city, country and world. I was really inspired by Jennifer's goal for 2012 especially because changing and impacting Toronto is something that we both aim to do. So the opportunity to team up with her just adds to the excitement.

Do you really know the funny part? Do you really want to know? Ok, I will tell you. She is putting together an event on December 28 and 29, and the theme is “How to Achieve your Goals in 2012”. I don't believe in coincidences. I mean, what are the odds!!! The really amazing part is the workshop retails for $495+ and it’s only $70 per person . . .

Guess what! There are some spots left for the event. Click here if you would like to attend (and I highly recommend you do)

Achieving more by doing less? I have tried it, and it seems to be working for me

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The best is yet to come (especially if you attend Jennifer Beale's event lol).

Moral of the story? Do you want to achieve more in 2012, Just decide to do nothing lol

Spotlight: Lisa Kember

1st   Many entrepreneurs are concerned about how to grow their business. What do you think are the fundamental elements they need to focus on in order to grow their business?

In all the years I have been consulting with and advising small business owners and entrepreneurs, the #1 thing I hear consistently is “how do I get new business in the door?” That is a critical piece for any organization – driving new opportunities is of course important. But what I see many people doing in their business is worrying too much about getting new customers and not spending enough time nurturing the customers they have. The fact is that it costs a lot more to get new customers than it does to keep existing customers. The part most people don’t think about is that existing customers will typically spend 7 times more than new customers and if you see even just a 5% increase in customer retention, you can see anywhere from 50-100 times more revenue growth. The other great thing about existing customers is if you satisfy them consistently, they will bring new business to you – so you will grow your business anyway.

At Constant Contact, we have been encouraging our customers for years to ‘flip the funnel’ and focus more on retaining existing business in order to grow your business. It works!

How do you focus on your existing customers and thereby grow business? #1 – Focus on delivering a great customer experience, from the minute they walk in the door, until well after they have left, just deliver great service wrapped around your product. #2 – Stay in contact with them; if you stay in touch with regular communication, when they are ready to buy again they will think of you first because you gave them such a great experience. And they will also think of you when someone asks if they can recommend a good ‘what you deliver’.

2nd  Entrepreneurs want to create strong relationship with the existing and potential clients. What are few tools that Constant Constant offers which would help them?

Constant Contact offers a suite of marketing software tools for small business. Our flagship product – the one we are best known for – is Email Marketing; it provides an easy way to produce professional looking email campaigns, manage your lists, send campaigns and track the results. It is a powerful way to stay in touch with your prospective and current/past customers. We provide Online Survey, which lets you assess how you are doing through customer satisfaction surveys or enables you to conduct a poll with your customers.  Our Event Marketing system makes it easy to host events for your customers – from seminars to holiday parties – and easily capture registrations, collect payment and promote the event.  Finally, we offer exceptional Social Media Marketing tools to engage your customers, prospects and partners through social sharing tools, Simple Share functions and social campaigns. If a small business leverages these tools, they will find that their business is sustainable over time and will grow to the success they envision.

Lisa Kember is the Regional Development Director for Constant Contact. She works with small business owners, associations and non-profits, teaching best practices in online marketing.
Lisa is also an entrepreneur. She launched Hyperactive Communications, a business marketing agency, in 1999 and worked with the likes of Canada Life, Research in Motion, EllisDon Corporation, AMJ Campbell, GE Canada, and ICICI Bank Canada. She currently holds ownership in two ventures in the real estate and education sectors
Lisa teaches public relations at Sheridan College. She sits on the board of directors for the Mississauga Board of Trade and on the marketing committee for RIC Centre, the innovation hub for Peel Region.
Lisa holds a BA in Honours English from University of Waterloo and a Resource Development Management diploma from Sheridan College.

3 Ways to become a professional inviter

Three people say “No not interested” and then 4th person you speak says “Yes I am coming” this is just brief example but in the world of networking and speaking to different people you will meet in a given days or weeks ahead. Social media world has created the follower effect online which is a powerful movement. The only thing that can beat that is world of mouth marketing. Being a walking talking great networker can create interest in what you do and also path you take in your journey to create better value in attracting clients.

1. Events

Going to various events in your city you begin to better great understanding of the caliber of professionals and entrepreneurs you meet. As you do this you will get better understanding on the types of event and various entrepreneurs and professionals you will meet. Networking and exchange business cards you will begin to increase your list and resources.

When you are at a event you can ask specific what other events they will be attending in the coming weeks, you can make a big impact on building a long term relationship with them and help each other grow your businesses.

Have engaging conversation and ask key questions about their business and types of clients they are looking for will create an reciprocal interest in you.

“ You have two ears and one mouth, use them effectively and listen more”

2. Social Media

From Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter you can make daily comments as where you have gone and who you had met throughout the day. Take notice of the “like” feature and how many make comments about this. There are contacts that may be following you with interest because they are interested in your expertise or have met you in previous events.

Social Media as created this type of community and being aware of it can create an opportunity of emailing and calling this contacts to join you at other events. Reach and send an email or if they are online click on their name and engage in a conversation online. “Great to see you at the SOHO even last week. Would you be interested in joining me at the Small Business Forum I have an extra ticket?” Simple strategy to have group dynamic who are attending this upcoming event.

3. Phone call

Picking a business card and calling the script below can be a great way to invite people to other events. Hi  John, this is Jim Pagiamtzis. We met at the International networking show last week. As  I recall you said you had worked in the insurance industry there is an event happening next week in Toronto that I will be attending there will be ideal clients for your business, would like you to be my guest”

Having a strategy to utilize your network effectively will lead into stronger relationships with you contact and the ability to create better long term value in the future.

Email marketing campaign that worked!

It was early late October and I had made a decision to register with Constant Contact for the next two months to do handle my email marketing campaigns. I was doing  newsletter for the past  three years as of this year my  list had grown and it was time to use more effective and efficient way.
Had been to a few seminars in Toronto by Lisa Kember  (Regional Development Director, Southern Ontario).    had received emails from entrepreneurial friends using the service which look very professional. The goal was to do two campaigns in November.
With the help of their coach’s put together an email newsletter and waited to see what would happen. At the same time also shared links with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and post on information on various site from my blog to others (jimpagiamtzis.blogspot.com, metroactive.org, enterprisetoronto.com and candaone.com)
The open rates  on this 1st campaign  21.2% 9 (see chart below) which according to Constant Contact were above industry average (18%). I was elated  to be above average on my first attempt.
On November 1st made a decision to join Constant Contact.com to utilize their online email campaign service. Was looking forward to using their analytical software to get a better understanding of open rates and if links were being clicked.
Nov 10,2011 I did a joint talk that happened with Dianne Ojar-Ali. Great restaurant in downtown Toronto. Promotion started 4 weeks prior. There is was good synergy that was happening between everyone which made this an exciting event to promote and market.. We all promoted online to our social networks and at various events we were attending.
Two weeks prior we  were interviewed  by Canada One at a event in Toronto on Oct 26, it so happened we were all there.( Doina Oncel, Dianne Ojar-Ali and Jim Pagiamtzis ( don’t even ask how that happened!) Julie King did a great interview regarding the event and the topics we were going to cover.
Canada One interview at SOHO event at the Hyatt in Downtown Toronto

This gave us great promotion through their site and also to cross promote through other social networking channels which gives out network opportunity to hear what will be sharing that evening. We also promoted event through their event page also.
Doina Oncel  and Dianne Ojar-Ali  were also promoting the event through networking meetings and newsletters, which great that group co-operation dynamic which event even more appealing to various entrepreneurs and professionals
On Dec 3 we appeared on ThatChannel.com internet radio station in Toronto where had a great interview with Hugh Reily at  Liquid Lunch studio on downtown Toronto.  We also used this video to share with online networks.

The day of the event had arrived and we had 25 people attended and all were impressed with the information shared at the event. Had opportunity to promote the next event which  will sharing the story below.
Dec 3.2010
On  November 13 was another monumental day that I made decision at Goal Achievers Canada meeting where I stood up and passionate said “ We are doing at event in December” my  successful speakers and writers Patrick Bizindayvi and Christopher van der hoff  were not very excited about the idea due the fact it was near the holidays.
Explained the plan to them on how we were going to get it done. In less than half an hour had them very interested and on board to do the event. As the week went by called and emailed them both to update how the event promotion was coming along,  they were very excited, encourage and very supportive. Patrick Bizindayvi call said “ The connector is on fire”
Here’s what we did:
1st. Created very short commercial which were posted on You-Tube and the rest of our networks.
Patrick Bizindayvi commercial
2nd   Created on effective email marketing campaign using www.constantcontact.com which was sent out to my online contact and also shared with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN
3rd  Post information on Canadaone.com, www.enterprisetoronto.com, www.yesfreeclass.com , www.snapdowntowntoronto.com, ( you can also put request for them to send photographer!)

Within  LinkedIn also posted event on various groups that I belong to from alumni group, speaking groups and to organization that I have either spoken for and attended events in the past.
Two weeks prior to the event go an email from LinkedIn connection who was very interested about the event. We got connected via phone and he explained that he had numerous distributions list on LinkedIn that he could share the event with. I agreed with his offer and in return would give him opportunity to speaker for  10 minutes at the event to share about his background and his experience on being a public speaker.
In the coming weeks received numerous emaisl from contacts in his networking who confirmed to attend the event (which they all did). Two days prior he had Christmas Dinner and made an announcement and received three confirmations that evening!
As the event neared was getting near to the target goal of 30 attendees that I had set as goal three weeks prior. We had 22 attend which was an amazing result.

My Journey to a Saturday Event

Thank you to Patrick Bizindayvi for this great article regarding Get Connected Make Wealth happen event that happened on Saturday December 3,2011 in Toronto.

My Journey to a Saturday Event

Just few weeks ago at one of our Goal Achievers meeting, we were talking about doing an event before Christmas at which each one of us would get a chance to speak. While debating if we should do it or not, our own Jim stood straight and looked in our eyes and said : I am going to make it happen.

I have known Jim for a while, but that was the first time I saw him with such confidence. Right then I knew he would do it. He in fact did, and in a big way. He managed to find a few partners to help him promote it, he even secured a venue five minutes away from where I live with great food on the menu (how could I resist this?), and the event just happened two days ago.

We had amazing guest speakers and the audience did respond greatly to our presentations

I remember few months ago when I met Phil Taylor the founder of Goal Achievers International. I told him before I joined the group that my goal was to become a professional speaker and coach. At that time I knew what I wanted but it was not enough. I had to find my audience, and (especially) my topics. After few months, and with the help of fellow Goal Achievers members, I knew I would devote the rest of my life helping people achieve their goals. Since then it's been a fun ride (including me ending up being the President of Goal Achievers Canada).

I have found that the best way to help others achieve their goals is to achieve mine.

When I was in Burundi, I was invited by one of the TV stations down there to talk about my journey. Since then they have aired the show three times (I think I did good, what do you think?). Ever since people saw the show, I have received tons of e-mails congratulating me and, sometimes asking for my help. All I did was talk about my journey and a few goals that I had achieved

Achieving one's goal is one of the beautiful things in life. But the journey to get there is what I found the most interesting.

Sometimes on the journey to our goals it looks like nothing is happening. Believe me, it's one of the toughest moments when you don't see how you are going to make it. But trust me, it's happening even though we don't see it. It's like a farmer planting grains of corn. When the seed is in the ground, for a number of weeks nothing appears on the surface but the roots are taking forms below the surface. The farmer knows this is happening, so he doesn't worry if the crops are growing or not. He just knows when the time is right he is going to harvest what he planted.

Dreams are the same. They are like seeds planted in our heart. I heard someone say that in the vision there is provision. All we need is keep believing without seeing and the dream will come to pass like the seed in the ground that will become one day a crop to harvest.

So, my friend, don't give up when you don't see your dream happening. It's happening below the surface. Keep believing. It will come to pass.

Moral of the story? Do you want to invite me to speak at your event? Make sure you bring nice food at your event and I will help you achieve your goals

Crazy Facts About Christopher  van der Hoff

Christopher van der Hoff was once a "certified psychotic". In fact, over 30 years ago, Christopher was "involuntarily committed" to a mental institution, locked up and not permitted to leave for over three and a half months. Christopher credits his challenges with his mental illness for much of his success in sales.

Salespeople, however, don't have to be crazy to benefit from his insights. They can adapt Christopher's suggestions to their own selling to improve sales results immediately.

Not So Crazy Facts About Christopher

• In his first year, as the youngest District Manager for Uniroyal Tire in Canada, he took his district that already had the usual corporate market share and doubled it. What's perhaps most extraordinary is that this success came just over a year after he was released from the mental hospital.
• With Motorola Cellular Canada, with a direct sales force of as many as 135 representatives, Christopher's sales results were also incredible. For a two year period, quarter after quarter, he never fell below second place.
• With Dale Carnegie Training, Christopher mastered and sold: 'The Dale Carnegie Course' in Effective Speaking and Human Relations; The Dale Carnegie Sales Course; and The Executive Presentation Program.
• As a Dale Carnegie instructor's lead assistant, Christopher helped teach 'The Dale Carnegie Course' over a dozen times.
• In addition to his years of presentation instruction, he has further refined his communications skills as a graduate of the Certified Practitioner Course in Neuro-Linguistic Programming by NLP Institutes of Canada.

• With Toastmasters International, Christopher was asked to present his keynote, entitled "How To Deliver Magnificent, Powerful, High Impact Presentations", more than forty times.
