Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti) is instructor at Barton. He gets the unfortunate duty to take care of a few Holdovers and that is when the drama and story unravels.
Director Alexander Payne has the ability to unravel characters just enough to get to know them and near the end when everything is finally get untangled you get a big sideways suprise!

A curmudgeonly instructor at a New England prep school remains on campus during Christmas break to babysit a handful of students with nowhere to go. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker, and with the school's head cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War.
