Special Guest post: Cyber Tip #31 Hisham Qaddoumi

Cyber Tip 31:
It’s #Halloween and some people decide to take “scary” to a very dangerous level in the cyber world. A very common Halloween threat is called the “Phishing” scam. People try to reach you through email or fake social media accounts to steal your login details.

These emails or pages will look exactly like they come from known websites or social media platforms and will attract to a “trick or treat” kind of a of game or something. Here’s what you should do:

1- Do NOT submit your login details to any unknown page. If the page looks like a social media site, make sure that the URL is real like “facebook.com” not “faceboook.com”.

2- Ignore these emails all in all to avoid any possible scam. If want to try an offer or so make sure that the sender address matches the original company website.

3- Keep your antivirus up to date and enable internet and email scanning.
Have a Happy Halloween.

Cyber Tip 30:

WiFi is great, but it can be used to hack into your phone or any mobile device even without you logging into them. Some people set anonymous WiFi networks, so your phone will try connecting into them.

Once this happens, they allow your phone to connect and they get access to your phone and all your data. Switch off the WiFi feature in your phone when you don’t need it, especially if you were outside were there are many public WiFi networks around you.

Have a happy and safe surfing.

CyTip 29:

One of the advantages of having a camera in every phone is that you can tape anything anytime, including accidents or crimes that happen in public.

And while you ARE allowed to do that, you’re NOT allowed to post it publicly on social media or any public website as it might get you into trouble.

Yet, you can use these videos (or photos) as evidence when you submit a report to your local or provincial police force.

If you live in the GTA you can report crimes with your phone and the material you took through this link:
https://www.torontopolice.on.ca/core/

Anywhere in Ontario you can report to Ontario Provincial Police here:
https://www.opp.ca/index.php?id=132

These links are NOT for emergency calls, for that matter you can immediately call 911 from any phone in Canada.

Be aware and careful and behave as a responsible citizen.

Journey to taking my first Uber ride!

   Thursday October 25

I had to take Uber from Finch Subway station to get to Richmond Hill Country club to help out a friend with an event.

I download the App on my phone in the morning. When I got to Finch Station I did some administrative tasks and I was ready for my first ride.

 I was really excited!

Open up the app and enter my destination in a few seconds I was given some choices and waited for instructions

Very quickly I was given drive and the licence place of the car and where to meet.

Unfortunately I went to the wrong spot but quickly communicated with the drive via the app and went across the street and met him

His name was Andy and he been doin Uber for ten months and was enjoying it very much. It was quick 20 minute ride and we arrive at the destination

I said "Thank you" He said "your welcome thanks for the conversation"

He pressed the app for complete and he signaled if it was 5 star rating I said "for sure" and with that he was on his way for the next pick up

Evening ride

In the evening I took an Uber again from my friends office on Finch and Allen road area back to Downsview Station.

It was great ride with Mohammed and of course a 5 start rating

Moral of this story: It was an Uberrific day!
