Special Guest Post: Cyber Tip #5 -Hisham Qaddoumi

Free mobile apps are cool, but do we know what kind of data they collect about us? In the recent years there were a lot of scandals about apps that steal data without users consent. So all big mobile operating system providers developed a feature that tell you what permission these apps require before you install them and an ability to remove permission at any time. To keep safe from these apps follow these simple steps:

1- Once a warning screen appears when you install an app READ what permissions they ask for and make sure they match the nature of the app. For example, a photo editing app does NOT need access to your contacts, right?

2- If you installed apps in the past and don’t remember what permissions they were granted you can still check them, block the permissions that don’t make sense or have the chance to know so you can uninstall them. The following links tell you how to do that on different operating systems:
Android
