Special Guest post: Cyber Tip #12 - Hisham Qaddoumi

CyTip #12:
Ever got a call from an agent saying they have a “Huge sale on an item”? Or a “$500 voucher” on an airline ticket?

Well, most of these calls are just phishing calls.

Most big corporations do NOT offer phone offers unless their business is in communication.

Once you get these calls do NOT share personal information or any sensitive data.

If you’re a client to corporation, they ALREADY have this data on you and they won’t require you to repeat it. Once you receive a call like that and been asked for personal info do the following:

1- Hung up immediately and don’t call or respond to the same number back or engage in further conversation.

2- Report the incident to local authority. In Canada we have Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. You can report by:

Phone call: 1-888-495-8501 (toll-free 9:00 am - 4:45 pm EST)

Website: https://www.services.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/?ipeReferer=CAFCFRS

3- You can also block the caller’s number using your phone operating system.
Have a happy and safe surfing
.
