Better to be 3-hours too early….

Perhaps Shakespeare had time to burn but as a business owner or department heads, we don’t. I think for us “better 15 minutes too early then a minute too late” fits better.William-Shakespeare-007
Which raises an interesting point. Why is it when I go around a room of business owners and department heads and ask “what is your #1 issue?” 60%, yes 60% reply….Time Management.
What? Still?  How many books on Time Management do we need?
It really is as easy as Covey says “put first things first”.
If you are still struggling with Time Management (and 60% of you are) then here are my 2 Secrets, my 2 EASY Secrets, to enable you to breakthrough:
   Secret #1:  Funfocused1ocus & Commitment
Your business is not the problem…unfortunately you are the problem! You are unfocused and unaccountable. Weekly define the “first thing” and put it first and then the second and third.  How easy is that? But put Secret #2 first…
   Secret #2:  Yes – have a VISION
To put first things first, you need to know the end game and you don’t.  You haven’t defined where you want to go, why you want to be there and what you will do when you get there.  Frankly, you are spending more time with your vacation itinerary then you are on your business itinerary.

Bonus Secret #3:  Stop Trying
 Uncomfortable
If Secret #2 and Secret #1 don’t work for you then typically you are saying to yourself “I’ll TRY”. How’s that working for you? Stop. Stop trying and start doing. Stop breaking systems that work because they make you uncomfortable. Guess what SUCCESS is UNCOMFORTABLE!
Want to learn more about Time Management then first stop reading and again start doing because no book will change it for you. You have to change.
Want 39 Practical Time Management Tips? Grab a copy of my book CHAOS and read pages 79 – 81.
Want to permanently do away with Procrastination and all other Time Management issues?  Then get focused and accountable and check out this resource clicking HERE.
To end the chaos and fire fighting…every…single…week, week after week, month after month even year after year for heavens sake you need to check out this resource. Click HERE right NOW!
You owe it to yourself to reconnect to the dream you once had of your business ownership or portfolio management experience. This resource will really help.

Perpetuated By "Business Coaches" & Consultants

I was recently asked to present a 60-minute webinar on how to resolve Time Management issues to an international group of business owners.

My first reaction was..."are you serious?  Doesn't everyone know by now how to manage their time effectively?"

Talk about a topic that has been beaten to death.

Still I persevered and prepared my own "Conquering Time Management; 10-Easy Steps"

Well the positive feedback was so overwhelming I feel compelled to share these 10-Easy Steps to Conquer Time Management here for all of my business friends.

But I need to be honest with you!

The idea you can fix your time management issues is all a HOAX, a sham, perpetuated by "business coaches" and consultants who want billable hours to build revenue from the same business pain over and over.

Don't get me wrong, Easy Steps 1 - 8 To Conquer Time Management are indeed powerful but it is only in Steps #9 & #10 that we find the 2-True Easy Steps To Conquer Time |Management.  These are the 2-Steps no "business coach" or consultant dare share or lose billing hours

But I don't want to jump ahead and so will begin at the beginning.....with 10-Easy Steps to Conquering Time Management:

Step #1:  Set the Objective and reverse engineer the process

An effective method for ensuring projects/work are completed on time is to set the date by which the project must conclude, the drop-dead date if you will.  Then reverse engineer the process that gets the project to that point.  How much by when if you will.  Be specific...be very specific at each step in terms of what outcome by what date

Want to get to the 10-Easy Steps to Conquer Time Management and find out the 2-True Easy Step plus so much more, check out this resource right HERE

Step #2:  Chunk Down

In the process of reverse engineering projects/work, break the work down into the smallest components.  It is easier to move mole hills then mountains.  The work will get done and more likely on time if the pieces of work are smaller.

Jump to the front of the line to get to the 10-Easy Steps to Conquer Time Management and find out THE 2-True Easy Steps plus so much more just click HERE

The next 8-Easy Steps will follow over the next few days but remember it is all a HOAX, a sham, that you can fix your time management issues until we get to THE 2-True Easy Steps being Steps #9 & #10.

Can't wait?  Then jump to the front of the line to get THE 2-True Easy Steps plus so much right NOW just click HERE

The Home Page of the website provides an Event Calendar that shows various Small Business and Entrepreneurial events that are happening across Canada.  Users have the ability to submit events via the Contact Us page for consideration.  There is also the opportunity to advertise at an affordable price via banner ads or thumbnail ads on this page.

The Directory Listings page allows users to submit their business information to be listed on the site.  The unique capability of this feature is that it is FREE to list your business along with an image, a short description, and email address and a phone number.

The Resources page is split into two portions – Startup and Marketing.  This division allows users to pin point the necessary information they require in a short amount of time.  There are also advertising opportunities available on this page.

The blog portion of the business offers a special feature called Canadian Small Business Woman of the Month.  This allows business women to submit a short autobiography or a bio of a fellow business woman to be featured in an article.  It also gives the reader the chance to receive advice from experts in various fields related to small business such as Small Business Banking, Social Media, Financing, Taxes, Business Management, Business Development and Web Development.

2nd  Can you share insights as to why its important to networking, share you business and learn from other successful women?

Networking is important because it gives you a chance to learn from others.  It is important for women to network with other women (not exclusively) in order to learn how to juggle the many responsibilities we hold and still be successful in business.  As women, we need to learn to develop our own definition of success and know that it is possible to be a successful business women as well as a successful parent and partner.

The #1 Resource…

To Triple Your Revenue!

Ara P.A good coach will make players see what they can be rather than what are.”

AND

“I learned teaching from teachers. I learned golf from golfers. I learned winning from coaches.”

I recently wrote that to Triple Your Revenues you need; FOCUS on what is to be done, Accountability Revenue Grwothfor doing what needs to be done and Measurement to ask the two great questions Why and What do I do about it.

Listen success is a simple equation! It is equal parts:
  • Aptitude +
  • Attitude +
  • Business Model +
  • Focus (Planning) +
  • Accountability (Action & Measurement)
= Success, Radical Success

Nothing fancy there. No Holly Grail. We own it all.

Now do me a favor and go tell your children that you have all the aptitude and attitude you need to be successful. Watch for their quizzical expression.

Wide eyed childYou see with innocence they know we don’t. After all they are surrounded by teachers and coaches every day, every hour (including us), enabling them to build skills and a mindset for greater success in math, reading, dance, hockey and professional pursuits. Having coaches is a way of life for children.

At what age did we all decide we knew it all for ourselves?

COACH: “A trusted independent 3rd party perspective who can observe shortcomings in performance, connecting them to the outcome, and capable of suggesting alternative performance techniques that are suited to the individual creating the best possible outcomes”
James Burgess author of CHAOS

Get one…NOW! Your own perspective on your aptitude and your attitude is not enough for success. Be able to look your kids in the eye.

Do you want your competition cowering in fear and trepidation when they think of you? Then

The Power Of Math In Selling

Obstacles are necessary for success because in selling as in all careers of importance, victory comes only after many struggles and countless defeats”   Og Mandino (12/12/23 – 09/03/96) author of The Greatest Salesmen in the World

 MandinoPicture

Granted, when we sell we must expect that not everyone will say “Yes”.  In fact, it has been said that to ease the stress of the “No”s you could thank the prospect for actually saying “No”.  What?  Why would you thank the prospect for saying “No”?
Well one, it will differentiate you from every other sales rep/business owner that pushes and pushes tying to find a new angle to get to the “Yes” .  Being different may extend the sales conversation because it is a natural response for the prospect to ask “why would you say thank you?”  Oh look you are back talking with the opportunity to rebuild rapport and fix whatever went wrong.
Secondly, selling is about math.  If you take the time to track your sales success you will come to recognize that your ability to close is as predictable as a batter’s hitting average in baseball.  As such, the script to the prospect when they ask why are you saying thank you is “because your “No” get’s me that much closer to my next “Yes”!”
I’ll come back to your batting average in selling in a moment.
In this article we’ll delve into the importance of understanding your mathematical statistics to focus your attention on selling more effectively.  Saying that, I know a bunch of you non-math people are ready to head off to another blog.  Wait!  Check out this video of Ma & Pa Kettle.  If you can handle  1/5 of 25% better than they can you’ll do just fine with the balance of this article.

With that fun, here is the #1-Secret of math to improve your selling:

Reduce your Annual Revenue Target to a Weekly Appointment Activity
    • That firstly requires that you set an Annual Revenue Target so do that first.
    • I’ll assume you decided on $1,300,000.
    • Determine your Average Revenue/Sale =Total Revenue/Total Invoices Issued over a reasonable time period (min 90-Days)
    • I’ll assume your Average Revenue/Sale = $10,000
    • With that I now know you need 130 closed sales this year to meet your Revenue target ($1,300,000/$10,000)
    • Now I also know you then need 11 closed sales/month (130/12) or 2,7 sales/week (130/48) allowing for 4-weeks vacation
    • In doing this exercise we have taken an Annual Revenue Target and made it an “in-your-face” activity target
    • Let’s go one step further determining your Close Rate.  Close Rate = # Closed Sales/# Appointments over a reasonable time period (min 90-days)
    • I’ll assume your Close Rate = 30% meaning in every 10 appointments you close 3.
    • With that I now know you need 9 appointments/week to achieve your $1,300,000 Annual Revenue Target.  Now you have a pure activity target that when you achieve it the desired outcome will be achieved.
That is why math is so powerful because it never lies.  When I meet the goal of 9 appointments/week, I will close 3 and at a $10,000 average I will achieve  $30,000 weekly and with 48 weeks at that level of activity I will generate my $1,300,000 (actually $1,440,000 with rounding.
Do this exercise and post on this article what you discover about your selling statistics.

Networking Made Easy Part II: Jeff Gitomer

In my last post Networking Made Easy Part I:  Michael Angela Caruso, I shared 4 Secrets for networking more effectively and a terrific video of Caruso sharing a relevant story.  The key learning?  The sales conversation is never about you, get them leaning forward like a good kiss

OzYellowAndRedBrick

and if you get lost in the process of asking questions just revert to “tell me more about____________” and fill the gap with the last thing the prospect said.
Today I’m going to make your networking a snap.   In Caruso’s video the key to success is to lead the prospect down the yellow brick road to where you identify a need or pain you can fix, “Ispeak about how to get sales people to work a full day”.
If your questions don’t lead you there and the prospect asks you “what do you do” how do you get the conversation back so they are talking again and you remain in rapport?
Check this idea out from Jeffery Gitomer.  This will make your networking  sooooooo easy.

How easy is that?  More importantly think of all the networking you have done and watched others do and ask how unique is that?   Being remembered is really the goal in a networking environment.

No-Soliciting-Window-Decal-Sign-S-4917
Take note that I didn’t say selling the is the goal of networking because that is absolutely the last thing you should be doing.  Build rapport with great questions, have a unique response to  “what do you do” and gain agreement to a meeting.

But back to Gitomer’s video for a moment.  Think about the power in this approach.  With the key to networking being to keep the prospect talking (and you not) to keep building rapport then Gitomer’s approach nails it.

“So James what do you do?”
“Well Anita what one word comes to mind when I say business planning?”
“Oh…I know I should have one but I hear they take too long and there’s no value in them”
“Ah really and so tell me Anita why do you say you should have one?”
I’m still asking questions, I have full disclosure from Anita about how Anita feels about what I do and I now have a litany of questions available for me to explore her pain more…but I’m not talking.
How cools is that?
With these two posts you are now ready to maximize on all of your networking and you don’t conversation-thumb-225x300-54624
have to remember a long script about what you do (because no one cares until you have rapport) that you’ll fumble over anyways.   Please go out and use these approaches and come back to this post and share the outcomes.

Spotlight: Larry Cooper

1.     What does a CFO do beyond being an accountant

You are first and foremost the business partner for the owner/manager or the Executive team of your business. You are known for your business prowess and ability to focus the Management on the facts while also having a creative side to be open to the potentials for any business opportunity. You know when to advise on caution vs what seems like a a wise risk.

You are constantly overseeing the business and pointing out areas for opportunity to grow or improve.

You are the glue that keeps everything running smoothly because next to the President you are the executive with the best level of knowledge of all the business activities. Accordingly, being the executive that typically minds the store while the President, Sales Executives and Marketing Executives are out meeting customers/suppliers and exploring business opportunities you are the one who makes sure all aspects of the operation are running smoothly. Of course you also meet customers, suppliers to bring the financial mindset to the business opportunities.

2.     How do you do networking different

You can start a networking group. You can do networking different than most, “what can I do for the other person “ instead of “what’s in it for me”. Most important lesson I have learned about networking is to always look to help out someone else and “what goes around, comes around.”
