Meditation in Toronto (Tuesdays)

Address: 60 Lowther Avenue, (close to St George subway station)
Bring: Water bottle & wear comfortable clothing

The meditation session starts at 7:15pm and ends at 8:30pm. That means sitting still as well as silent and meditating for 1 hour and 15 minutes. They usually have standing meditation in the middle for people to get up and stretch their legs. Then they have a talk for about 30 minutes and everything wraps up at 9pm. You can meditate by sitting on the chairs they provide. The more seasoned meditators bring their own meditation pillows and sit on the floor. Usually about 70 people show up. Just so you know, they talk a lot about the teachings of the Buddha. I prefer to let you know to be sure you feel comfortable. I really like the people, teachings and ambiance at this place and I’d highly recommend as long as it doesn’t create a conflict for you religion-wise. No Yoga for this one. Only mindful meditation. They provide all instruction before and during the class, so you will know what to do.

Journey to meeting the Journeyman

In 2011 I had opportunity to meet the amazing journeyman through my friend Phil Talyor.

It has been an amazing journey (will try not to repeat it to often) and getting to know him through mastermind group we were involved with, to sharing the stage with him all over the GTA.

We both started out blogs at the same time. (does that make us digital brothers?) and we both have had success in writing and sharing our blogs with the world.

As this current time I have 17 friends and 31,132 views on my blog.

Journeyman has 41 friends and 22,693 views on his blog.

The reason I mention this statistics is not to say that I pointing out anything  regarding his blog and mine.

The true impact is what we have motivated and inspired because of our blogs.

We have both turned our blogs into books. Huge thanks to Gerry Robert for that.

It was been great way to keep up to date. When Patrick Bizindavyi went back to Burundi in June 2011 to get married. The only we could find out what was happening was from his blog!

When he did come back a married man we didn't have any questions. We just wanted to know when wife is coming to Toronto! That's an interesting story that he should share (hint hint Patrick!)

As I mentioned early we were part of mastermind group in 2011 (entire year) We met every sunday with amazing group of men. Courtney Carrol, Christopher van der hoff, Jean Guy Francouer, Justin McMakin and Paul Renie. It was an amazing experience on so many levels. We accomplished some many group and individual goals.

At we continued our journey after the mastermind he never called by my name. He simply said "Hey Mr. Connector how are you?" via email or phone. It got some getting used to and truly enjoyed and listening to for them on.

To this day we have continued our friendship and have supported and encouraged each other in our ventures.

I had great experience to spend time with Patrick Bizindavyi, he lived in Toronto Dowtown Core so we went  for coffee at Tim Horton's numerous times (He actually lived on St.Patrick street) We were there often so literally they had a seats saved for us!  He would have is ice cappucino no matter what the weather and I would do the same.

We both enjoyed speaking and sharing our stories about our journeys.

The journey began...

Patrick came out and spoke at numerous event from the Canada Job Expo, Entrepreneur Speed Networking Group(Newmarket and Toronto)  and very special event that I did for the Toronto Finance Group in Mississauga.

I was invited to speak at his group called M-bridge with Sophie Duan and her amazing group.

We did  a session on Blogging Success for the Toronto Finance Group on December 2011 . Patrick  came out and spoke and we also brought Rania Effat who had just started here own blog called Living out my Purpose.(see link below)

It was an amazing time of sharing our expertise and inspiring the audience that they can achieve their potential.

It has been very memorable to be part of  the  journeyman experience and listen to his stories. His blog is informative, interesting and funny!

I do read it every week and we he doesn't post I usually email or text him as to my, Jeff in Kigali does the same thing!

He has mentioned me in  some of his post as "my friend Jim" which has been great.Appreciate his honesty and accountability.

I would say I am his journeyman  "wingman"

Patrick is an amazing listen, encourager and coach. It has been truly an amazing experience to learn and be inspired to succeed in my own journey of success.

Moral of the story: You will met amazing people in your journey, the choice is your to connect and make it happen! You never know where it will lead perhaps sharing your story on the journeyman stories blog!

1st  How do you create a network of meaningful people that can be resource for you and others?

You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want. Zig Ziglar

Look for win-wins, ask people what they do, why do they do it, how can you be of service, listen like you have never listened
before, be authentic and sincere.

Know what you do and why you do it. Give examples of what problems you solve! Look people in the eye,
stand tall, offer a warm handshake and share your pleasure in meeting them.

Stay in touch and provide value. Do what you say you will do and by when. When you invest in others you invest in yourself, take action now!

Don't quit people and Action always trumps Words! Pay forward and don't keep track, trust your gut! Forgive but don't forget!

When you find people that you resonate with keep them close. Let them know you want them in your network
and ask how to best communicate referrals. AND Refer them!

Finally.. build your database and always ask permission!

2nd  Having personal integrity and living a life of purpose is opportunity we all have. What strategies and initiatives do you
recommend we do?

Listen to yourself first, trust you have the answer within and find the courage to seek what you do not know.
GO TO YOUR NETWORK. Let them serve you!

Stop watching media and reading information that does move your life forward.

Find out how people view you and learn what impact you have on people. Are you an Asset or a Liability?

Train yourself to be constantly aware of your emotional state and find out what triggers you.
Be vulnerable in learning how to overcome those triggers.

Allow yourself to make mistakes. Don't allow yourself not to learn from those mistakes! Take responsibility for your actions.

Take on your life like a business, would you hire you?

Take on what you fear. You fear it for a reason. What can you learn here?

Honor yourself. Share your victories.

Your life consists of the words that you speak and the breathes that you take. Commit to your own truth, your growth and personal success!

Take on your spirituality/religion. Take on a Coach. Create a Triad/Master Mind group for accountability.

Develop a 90 day action plan. Create the future you are living into! Attend as many Personal and Professional Development Courses you can!

Do you what you love, have fun, keep smiling :) and know you are the answer!

Who I am is a Coach, Connector and Creator!
I am trained to see people bigger than they see themselves.
I love bringing people together and watching them leverage their passions and strengths.
I get excited when the opportunity to create something new presents itself by making a difference for others with purpose and outcome.
Presently I am the CVO Chief Visionary Officer of Be Do Have Events and curator of "Connect and Create" events for Landmark Education graduates!

We want to be a resource for small businesses to turn to if they need advice. We believe that advice should be free and that if an entrepreneur hits a road block that they should be able to contact us without the worry of being charged for it.

 Question # 2

There are so many reasons why networking is important, personally and professionally?

. When people network, inevitably information and ideas are exchanged. Like anything in life, the more people you meet the more opportunities open up for you. The best business deals are done through referrals, so the more positive and healthy relationships you have, the better chance of being able to market yourself or your company to as many people as possible. The old saying "It’s not what you know, but who you know" is still very much alive in business today. No matter what stage you are in your business, you can’t get around the fact that networking is crucial to your success and personal well being.

Travis Hartley is the CEO & Founder of The Consulting Pros and leads a team of professional companies and independent consultants who bring you years of expertise in growing businesses.

Mr. Hartley was awarded Profit Magazines Hottest 50 Companies with a growth of 426% in the first two years of business.

Book Review: Power Manners

Excerpt from Chapter in the book

Networking
Always Talk To Strangers!

You're invited to a business cocktail reception across town, right after work. It's not your favorite thing, and you always feel like a fish out of water, but after much humming and hawing you decide to accept the invitation.

You arrive on time, and by yourself. You make your grand entrance by slinking over, or making a mad dash to the hor d'oeuvres table. While heaping up you plate with goodies, you scan the room. It's buzzing with conversation. People seem to be having a great time, But you.... you wonder why you came - again! Another wasted evening with no one to talk to. So, you decide to help yourself to another plate of hor d'oeurvres before you leave.

If this rings true for you, your're not alone. Statistics show that up to ninety percent of adults experience anxiety when attending group functions with strangers. If you can relate to this story, and belong to the majority who are reluctant to mix and mingle, just remember that you are also seriously hindering your progress, personally and professionally.

Attending a business or social gathering can be turned into a unique way to connect with others for mutual benefit. If you find yourself missing out on opportunities to take advantage of an evening of networking, then here are some tips that will guarantee some measure of success next time.

Not only in networking a way to connect with people who can help you in a supportive nurturing way, it can also provide a never-ending source of business and social connections. To ensure that this night won't be another missed opportunity to make important contacts, do some homework, and  find out who's, why's and where's, what's and when's. Finding out who will attend gathering, and learning about their interests will give you something to talk with people of influence, some of whom just may have something in common with you.

Get psyched up for the occasion. You're not going off to a wake; keep it light and lively. If you can, list specific benefits of attending before you go.

Set  some goals and stick to them.

Practice your elevator speech. Your self introduction should be clear, concise, engaging and different. Rehearse in front of a mirror. Your handshake is a sure indicator of your confidence. Practice it until you've got it firm and friendly. Don't forget to smile, be open, enthusiastic and, for Pete's sake, show some expression and emotion: nobody enjoys a dead mask for a face.

Listening is an active task. Be encouraging by giving a nod and smile to those speaking. Put them at ease by getting them to talk about themselves: ask lots of open-ended questions and give the other person time to answer without interrupting. Always lean into the person you are speaking with- it send a positive, non-verbal signal that you're actually listening to them.

Lighten up and laugh at yourself. But never tell a self-depreciating story. Instead, make it positive and if you can funny.

Do everything with enthusiasm- from arrival, introduction to others, to leaving. Remember that  "like attracts like." So, be positive!

Avoid "eye-darting." Isn't it annoying when you are with someone who is constantly looking at everything and everyone except at you? Not only is it unnerving, it's downright rude. So , don't do it!

Catch up on small topics. Have something interesting to say. Current event's, the venue, the food. You may improve your drawing power as a  conversationalist by getting some extra ammunition solving crossword puzzles, and reading motivational books and good literature.

Visibility counts. Volunteer for community organizations where you will meet new people and become more confident. Be willing to help others, without expectations. "How can I help you?"  really does work. It's great connecting tool.

Have plenty of business cards to hand out. When given a card, write pertinent information on the back as soon as you can: include date, place and what you discussed.

Follow-up is crucial to successfully networking. Find a reason to re-establish contact, even if it's only to ask for advice on an area of the other person's expertise.

Networking can change you life. It's important to approach every new person with an open mind. You will be pleasantly surprised, guaranteed.

Shannon says...

Enter a room like loyalty.Stand tall, hold you head up high... pause... don't rush. It's guaranteed to get you noticed.
