       Saturday was great day to try some various wines and beers for free! There so many types to try.

       In the afternoon we had the opportunity to learn from a great panel of successful entrepreneurs. Jim Trelving, W. Brett Wilson and Bruce Croxon sharing about Business, Life and Success.

    I was with fellow entrepreneur Brett Deguire and we took in the show and all the engaging activities from playing golf, videos games and having engaging convesations!

Book Review: Cold Hard Truth on Men, Women & Money by Kevin O'Leary

It was interesting experience reading his 1st book "Cold Hard Truth" on my iPad! There were great insight how he grew up and the success he had in growing of the biggest software companies in the 90's Learning Centre and then selling it for billions of dollars. Of course he talks about money he lost it and made it back. Great story how he got involved in the Dragons Den and the journey them put he through, is worth the read just for that.

This second book he talks an interesting turn when his has an incident in Yorkville in Toronto when he "bumps" into a lady who asks him a questions which spurned this book.

My business parter  Patrick Bizindavyi Speaker and Author of Journeyman Stories blog Learn more can relater to this story when he the same thing happened to him "bumping" into a guy on Yonge Street which forever change his journey!

Because of that conversation Kevin O'Leary takes on a journey on how to deal with life every step of the way from the time your born to your twilight years. He straight forward and pulls no punches in his suggestions regarding pernuptial agreements to loaning money to friends.

There are numerous straight forward exercises that he highly recommends you do and explains the reason for doing them. It's like having him in your wallet (read the book to get this joke!) 

I did have chance to meet him in October 2011 at the CBC building for the launch of 7th Season of the Dragons Den Show.

Here is exactly what happened:

Jim: Hi Kevin great to meet you (shook his hand)

Kevin: Hi. (he signs a card with his name on it)

Jim. I give him my business card which says "Get Connected Make Wealth Happen"

Kevin. He looks at both sides and puts in a folder and I move on

Jim. Not sure what he was thinking when he was look at it. Perhaps he liked the word WEALTH and Dollar signs on it!

Book Review: Persuasion

   It was interesting to learn about her journey of success. Below are some insight on topics from Listen. Leadership and Speaking


  Great quote below that I enjoyed

  On the art of listening she explains it this way, "I'm talking about really listening to, and trying to understand, one person at a time. When it comes to persuasion, an emotional connection is worth a hundred business cards from acquaintances who don't feel attached to you"

 Leadership using a sports analogy, "The thought leaders in any work environment almost always view business as a team sport. They know a goal isn't scored just by the centre but also by the defence and everyone who assists, Your everyday conduct, then,is the key to persuading colleagues in specific situations. If you're a team player, you imply reciprocity in everything you do-it's already part of you personal brand. That's why other people will listen and really consider what you have to say when you're seeking backing for and idea or a process.

Tips on speaking to audiences, "Remember, the goal is to build a relationship, and one way to get there is speaking in a unscripted, authentic way, where you're able to focus  on reactions, establish eye contact, and observe body language. It's a lot harder for people to drift off and start checking their Blackberrys if you're looking them in the eye, speaking with a bit of passion, and sounding like a real person who sometimes muffs a word, rather than like a business robot."

Brett Wilson book launch at Chapter's Indigo Tuesday Nov

It was great pleasure to meet Brett Wilson for the second time a few years at Chapters Indigo at Bay and Bloor. We had a great conversation about the last time we met and perhaps returning to speak for Enterprise Toronto Small business forum in the near future. I got his book autographed (stay tuned for book review) and got a additional signature for my good friend Madlen Satz.
