Journey to using Prezi

This is an interesting journey for the few years. I love using Powerpoint. You can asked any of my good friends, Cheryl Rankin, Aline Ayoub and Bonnie Chan. They would all agree in unison!

This all change when I went to go see Entrepreneur and Founder of Network to Grow Learn more  Bonnie Chan share a presentation at the Microsoft Store at Yorkdale (they have a small seminar room at the back) in December 2013.

My entire idea of using Powerpoint changed. She shared her presentation using Prezi. An amazing online system on creating presentation that you can add images, zoom in and out ( I found that exciting!) and much more...

I went to website and logged in and played around for a half an hour and then left it and didn't think about it for awhile.

Fast forward to October 2013. Below is timeline of events

  Tuesday Oct 1st

I was due to meet Vito Marchese Founder of The Networker.ca Learn more in the afternoon to       pick up an invoice payment when he makes the statement " I am learning Prezi, been on it for 8hrs!" I was impressed with his determination. Had share my interest in the software and continued on my day

   Friday Oct 5th

I was due to speak at Centennial College on the Power of Blogging at 10:30am at the Progress Campus for Susan Kates Career Class. I had arrived early and Julia Stavo  at Centennial College was speaking befor me on the importance of having a great profile. She was sharing how she used Prezi on the first page of her website to share what she does. I busy making does and saying to myself "Briliant Idea"

These to situation had peaked my interest, I was interested the only thing was there a little bit of learning curve to understand Prezi.  This is when I had a great idea. I am host and community manager at Camaraderie Coworking.  Learn more  I could approach  Lisa Ricciuti  www.thedeletist.com and offer barter for exchange in services. I could learn Prezi little faster!

  Monday Oct 7th

I showed up for weekly Monday shift and started my afternoon of getting work done for the week. Few hours later Lisa Ricciuti shows up! I has was ready with my verbal proposal to her and to my surprise she agreed!

At 2:00pm that afternoon we sat down as she walked me through some basic insights on Prezi. "It's like Powerpoint on steriods" I said to Lisa. She responds in laugh " Yeah you can put it that way"

For the next 45 minutes she explained how the frames worked, how you can video, colours and much more.

It has been a great journey learning how Prezi can be used in so many different ways and look forward to sharing the vision of 21 Connections very soon.

Can't wait to share my 21 Connections Prezi with my webmaster Justin McMakin, he is going think I am a genius!

Moral of the story:  Got to the Microsoft and who know who may find your  Prezi in your life.

Jim Pagiamtzis shares insight on 100 days at Camaraderie Coworking

Power of Newsletter

In late February I got a newsletter from Camaraderie Coworking, just before I was going to delete it I scrolled to the bottom noticed they were looking for Community Managers for new location in the Bloor and Roncavelles area. Email, got and interview and was hired in less than week.

Events

Since April, I have done numerous educational seminars on Social Media, Sales, Blogging and Networking. Huge thanks to Tom Kaufmann, Patrick Bizindavyi and Erik Swanson for speaking and sharing

Social Experiment

On May 6th I participated in a social experiment initiated at Camaraderie Coworking by Steve Dolson (2 Social) and  Lyndon Johnson of Think Different, in which I de-activated my Facebook page for 1 week. Went on for an entire month. It was an amazing experience. (story I will share another time)

Mix n Mingles

We have had monthly Mix'n'mingles  since March to welcome new member and foster relationship with internal and external members. Our last event in June was a full house!

Look forward to sharing more insights and experience from Camaraderie Coworking later in the year as we open our second floor in the summer and 1st floor near the end of the year.

Yard Sale for the Cure a Huge Success on May 25th

It was an amazing Saturday to raise money  for the cure for cancer.  I met Kelly Zinger at the Live Green event in Toronto on April 12th. Her booth was across where I was volunteering with SwapSity's Swap Zone for the weekend. I bought  Swiss army bag (see below) from her booth.

They were promoting the upcoming Yard Sale for the Cure event on Saturday May 25th all around Toronto. I have offered to donate various items for the event. She connected me with representative in the area and suggested some items to donate.

I am glad to share that the event was a huge success. Items that I were donated were sold!. From portable refrigerator, pink poker set, silver poker set, Hockey Night in Canada game, rattles and jamberee, various bobble heads and mini collectible hockey sticks.

Thousands of dollars were created for great cause

 Great story

Since April I have donated 15 boxes of books to the Goodwill in Toronto and created a fantastic library of books at Camaraderie Coworking in Toronto. Thanks for their support!

Moral of the stories: It's great to do some spring cleaning throughout the year and support some great causes.

De-activated my Facebook accound for entire week!

A unique social experiment took place on Friday May 10th at Camaraderie Coworking (2241 Dundas Street West 3rd floor)

Upon the challenge of Steve Dolson from 2 Social and Lyndon Johnson of Think differently they challenged me to get off Facebook for an entire week. Check out link below Check out video

It was an idea that I had been "thinking" about for a while but had not executed for many reasons. One of the main reasons was that I teach and train on social media and not being on Facebook would have not looked good. The main reason that I did do it was I know I was spending to much time on it!

On Friday May 17th was the one week mark of the social experiment and I made it!  I was an experience and you know what? I am still of Facebook!

Here is what I learned from not being on Facebook for more that a week!

1st It's a huge time waster!  Searching my timeline, talk to friends was good thing but that was it.

2nd. I got to focus more on being more productive and focused on the tasks for the day.

3rd.  Spend time on Twitter and LinkedIn. As a matter of fact I spent two hours on Wednesday search the careers posting and at 3:00pm that day I had a phone interview. That was a powerful result!

4th I had better and productive meetings and email conversations regarding upcoming events and projects.

5th. Nobody has missed me on Facebook!  I stand corrected one person has Arlene Gray texted me on the weekend asking if I had unfriended her on Facebook or she couldn't find me. I told her about the social experiment and she said "Good for you"

In the end I was glad I did it and the only thing I do miss is speaking to few friends and uploading pictures from event. Result is I can always call my friends and post pictures on Pinterest!

I have not activated my account and will not for now.

Moral of the story: I challenge you to step back and evaluate you social habits and see if they being productive or wasting your time and energy.
