Open Season: Book Review

Jim's Review

Ben Crump has delivered a gripping book that he shares insights on how the justice system has failed and what can be done to fix it

10 out of 10 stars

About book:

Genocide—the intent to destroy in whole or in part, a group of people.

TIME's 42 Most Anticipated Books of Fall 2019

Book Riot's 50 of the Best Books to Read This Fall

As seen on CBS This Morning, award-winning attorney Ben Crump exposes a heinous truth in Open Season: Whether with a bullet or a lengthy prison sentence, America is killing black people and justifying it legally. While some deaths make headlines, most are personal tragedies suffered within families and communities. Worse, these killings are done one person at a time, so as not to raise alarm. While it is much more difficult to justify killing many people at once, in dramatic fashion, the result is the same—genocide.

Taking on such high-profile cases as Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and a host of others, Crump witnessed the disparities within the American legal system firsthand and learned it is dangerous to be a black man in America—and that the justice system indeed only protects wealthy white men.

In this enlightening and enthralling work, he shows that there is a persistent, prevailing, and destructive mindset regarding colored people that is rooted in our history as a slaveowning nation. This biased attitude has given rise to mass incarceration, voter disenfranchisement, unequal educational opportunities, disparate health care practices, job and housing discrimination, police brutality, and an unequal justice system. And all mask the silent and ongoing systematic killing of people of color.

Open Season is more than Crump’s incredible mission to preserve justice, it is a call to action for Americans to begin living up to the promise to protect the rights of its citizens equally and without question.learn more and buy book

The room where it happened: Book Review

                                                                         Jim's Review

John Bolton provides a detailed account of time as National Security Adviser with the Trump administration.

John was a season veteran and he truly thought it was going to be great experience to do this role. Little did he know the twist and turns and journey he went on in 564 days before he resigned.

There has been much written on President Donald J Trump and his administration. The details shared in this book will further show how President Trump was not experience to hand this role and the door swung both ways with people who came and left under his watch

How he handled foreign policy and American interests can be called to question after reading John's insights

                                                                                   10 out of 10 stars

                                                                               About book:

As President Trump’s National Security Advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves.

The result is a White House memoir that is the most comprehensive and substantial account of the Trump Administration, and one of the few to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the President, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a President for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation. “I am hard-pressed to identify any significant Trump decision during my tenure that wasn’t driven by reelection calculations,” he writes. In fact, he argues that the House committed impeachment malpractice by keeping their prosecution focused narrowly on Ukraine when Trump’s Ukraine-like transgressions existed across the full range of his foreign policy—and Bolton documents exactly what those were, and attempts by him and others in the Administration to raise alarms about them.

He shows a President addicted to chaos, who embraced our enemies and spurned our friends, and was deeply suspicious of his own government. In Bolton’s telling, all this helped put Trump on the bizarre road to impeachment. “The differences between this presidency and previous ones I had served were stunning,” writes Bolton, who worked for Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43. He discovered a President who thought foreign policy is like closing a real estate deal—about personal relationships, made-for-TV showmanship, and advancing his own interests. As a result, the US lost an opportunity to confront its deepening threats, and in cases like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea ended up in a more vulnerable place.

Bolton’s account starts with his long march to the West Wing as Trump and others woo him for the National Security job. The minute he lands, he has to deal with Syria’s chemical attack on the city of Douma, and the crises after that never stop. As he writes in the opening pages, “If you don’t like turmoil, uncertainty, and risk—all the while being constantly overwhelmed with information, decisions to be made, and sheer amount of work—and enlivened by international and domestic personality and ego conflicts beyond description, try something else.”

The turmoil, conflicts, and egos are all there—from the upheaval in Venezuela, to the erratic and manipulative moves of North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, to the showdowns at the G7 summits, the calculated warmongering by Iran, the crazy plan to bring the Taliban to Camp David, and the placating of an authoritarian China that ultimately exposed the world to its lethal lies. But this seasoned public servant also has a great eye for the Washington inside game, and his story is full of wit and wry humor about how he saw it played.learn and buy book

Jim's Review

This is truly a strange case of a college student Elisa Lam who travelled from Vancouver to Los Angeles for some adventure and fun.

She had been writing on a popular platform Tumbler about her life and what she was going through.

The Cecil Hotel has its on own interesting history.

What happens in the true crime drama the ultimate suspicious death of Elisa Lam and what the Hotel staff, Police and web sleuths did to try and solve this crime.

The video of Elisa Lam in the elevator has been viewed by millions and analyzed by many.

The documentary provided an account on what happened in the investigation and first hand knowledge of individuals involved.

Many lives were affected by this investigation many of the innocent people who had no involvement yet the web sleuths did major damage to their careers.

Sadly Elisa Lam created many conspiracy theories that were weird and very far fetched yet many believed them and visited the hotel to figure it out for themselves.

Eventually Elisa Lam never left the hotel and was found 19 days after her disappearance in the most unlikely place a specific place  that was never checked!

Tiger King has everything from crazy cat people who have zoos full of all types of animals and people come from far from wide to see them and take pictures with them

Behind the scenes there is dark and devious industry of  people who should not have any involved in the industry at all!

The documentary follows Joe Exotic on his journey of becoming the biggest cat owner in the U.S.A.

Until he runs into  Carol Baskin and they begin a heated war with each other, it gets so bad that Joe Exotic can't hold his cat farm and Jeff Lowe comes into the picture with his crew, it gets much worse and by the time it all ends Joe Exotic is in jail for murder for hire plot and nobody else pays the price for being involved in it!

Joe Exotic is currently servicing a 79 year sentence in jail and until recently he thought perhaps out going President Donald  Trump would give him a pardon. That didn't happen and he still in jail working on appeals

There is rumors of a movie with Nicolas Cage playing the lead role. stay tuned..

Movie plot:
Among the eccentrics and cult personalities in the stranger-than-fiction world of big cat owners, few stand out more than Joe Exotic, a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country western singer who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo. Charismatic but misguided, Joe and an unbelievable cast of characters including drug kingpins, conmen, and cult leaders all share a passion for big cats, and the status and attention their dangerous menageries garner. But things take a dark turn when Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary, threatens to put them out of business, stoking a rivalry that eventually leads to Joe’s arrest for a murder-for-hire plot, and reveals a twisted tale where the only thing more dangerous than a big cat is its owner.

Tampa Buccaneers vs Kansas City Chiefs Superbowl LV: NFL Special Review

 Sunday February 7, 2021

It is one of the early big events of the year. The Super Bowl LV has arrived

There were 21 thousand fans in the stands for the epic game. The Tom Brady Buccaneers vs the  Patrick Mahomes Kansas City Chiefs with dueling quarterbacks who had their own paths already paved.

Tom Brady in search of his 7th title while Mahomes looking for his 2nd

The early betting line was the Chiefs 3 points favorites but the game turned out completely different

The Buccaneers defense was merciless and all over the Mahomes from the start of the game and they couldn't get any rhythm. Penalties became a factor throughout the game being penalized 8 times for 95 yards, mainly for holding.

Meanwhile Tom Brady defense held their ground as Tom Brady delivered two touchdown passes  to Rob Gronkwoski and 1 to Antonio brown

The halftime show was done by Canadian The Weeknd

In the 2nd half of the game it was more of the same as the Kansas City Chiefs couldn't mount any momentum as the Buccanneer defense pressured him all over the field leading to misplays and interceptions
