The Mind of a Bee: Book Review

Jim's Review

Terrific book on insight of a bee!

10 out of 10 stars

About book
A rich and surprising exploration of the intelligence of bees

Most of us are aware of the hive mind―the power of bees as an amazing collective. But do we know how uniquely intelligent bees are as individuals? In
The Mind of a Bee, Lars Chittka draws from decades of research, including his own pioneering work, to argue that bees have remarkable cognitive abilities. He shows that they are profoundly smart, have distinct personalities, can recognize flowers and human faces, exhibit basic emotions, count, use simple tools, solve problems, and learn by observing others. They may even possess consciousness.

Taking readers deep into the sensory world of bees, Chittka illustrates how bee brains are unparalleled in the animal kingdom in terms of how much sophisticated material is packed into their tiny nervous systems. He looks at their innate behaviors and the ways their evolution as foragers may have contributed to their keen spatial memory. Chittka also examines the psychological differences between bees and the ethical dilemmas that arise in conservation and laboratory settings because bees feel and think. Throughout, he touches on the fascinating history behind the study of bee behavior.

Exploring an insect whose sensory experiences rival those of humans,
The Mind of a Bee reveals the singular abilities of some of the world’s most incredible creatures.Read book and buy

Bad Boys Ride or Die (2024): Movie Review

Jim's Review

There is lots to unpack for this review and lets start in the past.. I was huge fan of the Bad Boys (1995) and the sequel Bad Boys 2 (2003) then there was a huge break until Bad Boys for Life (2020) which reveals of of Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) weird past with a witch with whom she had a son Armando Aretas (Jacob Scipio)

Fast forward to Bad Boys Ride or Die  (Adil & Bilall) who also directed Bad Boys for Life.

In this installment Marcus Burnett ( Martin Lawrence) is going to mid life crisis and Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) has his own ghosts to deal with.

Captain Conrad (Joe Pantoliano) sends them a video from the past regarding some corrupt cops and some crazy things that happened way back in Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys 2 (2003).

Burnett and Lowrey are on the hunt with some help for team in the previous film. There are some cool cameos from Michael Bay director of first two films driving a porche and Fletcher (John Salley) tech wizard who is now club owner. Manny the Butcher (DJ Khaled) is mean and hilarious and  Jay Shetty author play wedding officiant at Burnetts wedding.

There is also amazing scene with Reggie (Dennis McDonald) who had breakout role in Bad Boys 2 (2003) who is now Burnett's son-in-law and enlisted in the army.  He is pressed to duty when their home is invaded and his to protect his wife and mother in law and fast paced action sequence.

The climatic end is full of guns a blazing, drones flying and alligators chomping and in true fashion Bad Boys get the recognition they deserve and Miami's cops who get the job done ride or die

8.5 out of 10 stars

My battle with insomina: Feature article

                                                           What can cause Insomnia?

January 2024

It was Saturday January 8,2024 and I went to be bed and normally did for all my life.

Until this night that I something was very wrong, I couldn't fall asleep!

I had heard about insomnia in movies and friends and family telling me about it  but when it happened to me it truly scared me to my core.

Quickly made an appointment and visited my family doctor on Tuesday morning.

I had lots of questions and my doctor was very calm and prescribed me a drug to take for 5 days. It was so small I cut them half to last me ten days!

Happy to report that I finally got some good night sleep by weeks end!

Giannis Antetokounmpo The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Rising Superstars: Book Review

Jim's Review

An amazing journey on the long road that Giannis took to get the NBA!

10 out of 10 stars

About book
Learn the Inspiring Story of the Milwaukee Bucks' Superstar and MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo!Read on your PC, Mac, smartphone, tablet or Kindle device! One of many riveting reads in the Basketball Biography Books series by Clayton Geoffreys.

Newly revised for the start of the 2022-2023 NBA season, Giannis The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Rising Superstars explores the inspirational story of one of basketball's greatest superstars, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Often nicknamed "The Greek Freak", Giannis Antetokounmpo has quickly emerged as one of the most unique players in the league today. His incredible wingspan and athleticism have made him a dominant presence on both the offensive and defensive ends of the basketball court. He is easily one of the most difficult defensive assignments for opposing teams due to his ability to not only start as a forward, but also as a guard. He has become the face of the Milwaukee Bucks franchise and led the team to their first NBA Championship in over 50 years since 1971. His exceptional skills and dominance on the court have earned him multiple accolades, including back-to-back MVP awards in 2019 and 2020, NBA Defensive Player of the Year and six-time NBA All-Star.

Despite his already impressive accomplishments, there is still much to be unveiled in the career of Giannis Antetokounmpo. In this book, we'll learn more about The Greek Freak's journey into the NBA, his impact on the game, and his growing legacy as one of the best up and coming stars to make his presence known in basketball.

Here is a preview of what is inside this Chapter 1: Childhood and Early LifeChapter 2: NBA Getting Drafted, Rookie Season, Working Under Jason Kidd, Becoming an All-Star, Reaching Elite Superstar Status, The MVP Season, The Dunking Machine, Second MVP, First DPOY, Reaching the MountaintopChapter 3: International CareerChapter 4: Personal LifeChapter 5: Impact on BasketballChapter 6: The FutureAn excerpt from this Giannis biography

The NBA loves rags to riches stories about how a person that lived and grew up in poverty worked to get to the league, not only as an ordinary player, but as a superstar ranking among the best in the world. These are the stories that make people adore the player and what he has been through to get to the top. More importantly, these are the stories that inspire young children to work just as hard, if not harder, than their idol to reach the success that they aspire to achieve.

Several of the greatest players in league history have had to endure poverty before they found success in the NBA. Allen Iverson barely had a home growing up before he starred at Georgetown. In his MVP speech back in 2014, Kevin Durant said that his mother raised him and his brother alone while the family moved from roof to roof. The same was true for LeBron James, who was raised alone by his mother when she was only 16 years old. These players not only earned millions as NBA superstars but have also become fan favorites because of how they worked their way up to get to the league.

Likewise, the NBA has also found a liking for players that were seemingly genetically engineered to dominate in basketball. These are the players that, at a glance, were naturally destined to be great because of the physical tools they possess. If the NBA was a horse race, these players are your thoroughbreds judging by how much more physically gifted and talented they are than the rest of the competition.learn more and buy book
