The Reign of Marvel Studios MCU: Book Review

                 Magical, Mystic and Marvelous

Jim's Review

It was marvelous adventure to read this book finally ( can you tell I am huge fan!)

It was a thick book yet I didn't mind to read all that happened in MCU universe way back to 2008 when Iron Man came to fast forward 2024 and Kraven The Hunter is coming out this week  December 2024.

I was an avid reader of comics way back in the 80's and sadly I sold most of them in the early 2000's. In recent year I have started a small collection and as of last week and came across a batch of 30 comics while doing some spring cleaning and you should have seen my face when I found Wolverine #1 ( I was so happy for my old self that I kept it!)

Now back to the book...

There was so much to unpack the good, the bad and the ugly with Marvel, Walt Disney and Sony. Comics have come alive and on the silver screen and there are so many people involved!

In the end we get to escape and enjoy a movie with character we envy and perhaps don't like. I have spent many hours watch Easter Egg videos on multiple channels, shout out to Canadian Lad and Rock Stars to name a few.

There are marvel films I love to watch all the time Spiderman 2 (Tobey McGuire) Ant-man, Avengers, Avengers Infinity War, Avenger Endgame.  and other I will not watch  Madame Web, She-Hulk Attorney at Law.

There are over 1700 character who deserve the limelight and they will get it eventually.

I had the great honor to meet the Marvelous Stan Lee twice and he was hilarious and funny both times.

Finally back to the MCU book is 10 out of 10 stars

About book
Marvel Entertainment was a moribund toymaker not even twenty years ago. Today, Marvel Studios is the dominant player both in Hollywood and in global pop culture. How did an upstart studio conquer the world? In MCU, beloved culture writers Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards draw on more than a hundred interviews with actors, producers, directors, and writers to present the definitive chronicle of Marvel Studios and its sole, ongoing production, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For all its outward success, the studio was forged by near-constant conflict, from the contentious hiring of Robert Downey Jr. for its 2008 debut, Iron Man, all the way up to the disappointment of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and shocking departures of multiple Marvel executives in 2023. Throughout, the authors demonstrate that the original genius of Marvel was its resurrection and modification of Hollywood’s old studio system. But will it survive its own spectacular achievements? Dishy and authoritative, MCU is the first book to tell the Marvel Studios story in full—and an essential, effervescent account of American mass culture. Learn more and buy book

Predator A Memoir A Movie An Obsession : Book Review

Jim's Review

Ander Monson has watch Predator movie 146 and he shares some interesting insights on the movie

10 out of 10 stars

About book
In his first memoir, Ander Monson guides readers through a scene-by-scene exploration of the 1987 film Predator, which he has watched 146 times. Some fighters might not have time to bleed, but Monson has the patience to consider their adventure, one frame at a time. He turns his obsession into a lens through which he poignantly examines his own life, formed by mainstream, white, male American culture. Between scenes, Monson delves deeply into his adolescence in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Riyadh, his role as a father and the loss of his own mother, and his friendships with men bound by the troubled camaraderie depicted in action and sci-fi blockbusters. Along with excursions into the conflicted pleasures of cosplay and first-person shooters, he imagines himself beside the poet and memoirist Paul Monette, who wrote the novelization of the movie while his partner was dying of AIDS.

A sincere and playful book that lovingly dissects the film, Predator also offers questions and critiques of masculinity, fandom, and their interrelation with acts of mass violence. In a stirring reversal, one chapter exposes Monson through the Predator’s heat-seeking vision, asking him, “What do you know about the workings of the hidden world?” As Monson brings us into the brilliant depths of the film and its universe, the hunt begins.
